Churchpoint at Roddy roundabout opening estimated for mid-May: Around Ascension Parish

Gonzales Weekly Citizen

According to Ascension Parish government, the contractor for the Churchpoint at Roddy roundabout targets a mid-May opening for traffic in all four directions.

Per parish government, inclement weather has caused some construction delays.

The road construction has been expected to finish over the next two months and supply chain issues has delayed installation of street lighting.

Road lighting should be installed around the end of the year or early 2025.

Ravenwood Drive bridge

In another update, parish government reported the contractor was set to begin work April 29 to repair Ravenwood Drive bridge.

The road is expected to remain open for one lane for traffic.

U.S. 61 construction zone

Work is underway along U.S. 61 from Hwy. 74 to Hwy. 42 in the Prairieville area.

According to state transportation officials, construction spans 5.306 miles in Ascension Parish.

The work includes milling asphalt concrete, pavement patching, asphalt concrete overlay, striping, loop detectors and related work at a cost of $12,759,761.

Motorists have access to travel the road but should anticipate delays due to alternating lane closures on U.S. 61 (Airline Hwy.) northbound between Hwy. 74 and Hwy. 42.

Construction is allowable nightly from 8 p.m.. to 5 a.m. Mondays-Thursdays, and on weekends from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.

Public hearing

The Gonzales City Council posted a reminder that it will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. May 28 at city hall.

It will be to consider levying additional or increase millage rates without further voter approval or adopting the adjusted millage rates after the reassessment and rolling forward to rates not to exceed the prior year’s maximum.

The estimated amount of tax revenues to be collected in the next year from the increased millage is $1,689,794 and the amount of increase in taxes attributable to the millage increase is $48,044.
